Editorial Review for Gaslight – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Befitting its name (French for "brasserie on the corner"), Gaslight provides the far reaches of the South End with a welcoming neighborhood hangout. The Aquitaine Group (Aquitaine, Metropolis Cafe, Union Bar and Grill) repeats its knack for striking a balance between upscale and casual, enabling diners to pop in for a quick snack or a full meal. The menu of bistro faves (onion soup, moules frites, nicoise salad) is affordably priced, with everything under $20.

I couldn't disagree with the previous two reviews more. I absolutely love Gaslight! It’s my favorite place to stop for an afterword cocktail, which more often then not turns into dinner. Every time I go in the staff is so welcoming it’s just hard to leave- and really who wants to go home and after watching tempting dishes go by. I really enjoy their cocktails, especially the au poire. I also can't resist the baguette --and the presentation in the paper bag reminds me of dining in Paris. Whenever I eat there I have to have the beet salad and an order of the French fries- they are my favorite in the city. The salad also has a surprising kick- which I love.
Pros: Atmosphere, staff, cocktails and food
Cons: nothing really

Gaslight has a friendly trendy atmosphere but that's about it. It was very loud and our waiter could not hear us well. The service was slow and they could not provide any recommendations on food. The steak we ordered was very salty and was delivered medium well instead of medium rare. The leg of lamb was chewey and on par with wedding food. The prices are reasonable but thats about the only complement I'd be willing to give this place and oh yes they have free parking. Pass on this place, if you like a french style brasserie go to Eastern Standard or Bouche
