Editorial Review for Giacomo's Restaurant – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
Giacomo's popularity, coupled with a strict no-reservations policy, means that on most nights (regardless of the weather) a line will spill out the door and onto bustling Hanover Street. Once inside the dining room's cramped quarters, patrons are rewarded with heaping plates of high-quality, reasonably-priced Italian cuisine. Patrons looking for the same award-winning cuisine but in a more relaxed setting should make the trek across town to Giacomo's South End location: Here, the speedy waitstaff's singular goal is to keep the line outside moving.
The Food
Faced with a menu that reads like Italian Cuisine 101, diners opt to start with a satisfying caprese salad or some crispy fried calamari before moving onto hulking plates of shrimp scampi and mussels marinara. Fresh, grilled tuna and swordfish steaks are also satisfying. Those hoping for coffee and dessert are out of luck, but an above-average and quite affordable wine list should ease the sting.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasYour credit cards are no good here, so come with cash. If you forget, there are ATMs all over Hanover Street.
Know Before You GoTo avoid being rushed out the door by zealous waiters, order your meal course-by-course instead of all at once.
Save MoneyCash-strapped couples should opt to split any of the restaurant's massive pasta dishes, which are more than large enough to share.

Had a mozzarella appetizer. It was really great. 3 slabs of crispy fried cheese - YUM! Then the pumpkin tortellini. Normally, not a fan of pumpkin, but this dish was so light with a subtle sweet pumpkin flavor. Waited in line for 30 minutes on a Monday night, but the weather was great and there was nice people to talk to in line. The server was super too! Highly recommend this place!
Pros: Service - Really fast and friendly
Cons: Can't think of one

But i'll go on about how great this place is. Given the fact that there is a line all year (even for the locals) it is well worth it. If you go, without a doubt, try the butternut squash ravioli. They are incredible. Get them as an appetizer and share with the table. You cannot go wrong here. The Caprese is fresh and the Bufalo Mozzerella is great. I usually get the chicken Marsala because it is the best Marsala sauce i have ever had. There is no doubt you'll have to wait in line, but the quality and authenticity of the food, matched with the inexpensive prices, makes this the best Italian restaurant in Boston. Hands down!
Pros: Everything but the wait, but even that isn't bad.
Cons: The wait.
